IPAC, located on the Caltech campus, is not under direct threat from local fires at this time, though it is subject to the effects of strong winds and poor air quality. Many members of the IPAC community have been impacted by these events, and IPAC will follow Caltech guidance on closures and safe operations. Decadal Survey 2010

In preparation for the Decadal Survey, and in celebration of the 25th anniversary of IRAS, IPAC facilitated a number of activities, including hosting a workshop to discuss strategies and plans for the future of far-infrared space astronomy. The goal of the workshop was to help define key science and technologies for the next generation of space-based far-infrared missions, based upon recent discoveries and the expected return of upcoming facilities, such as WISE, Herschel, SOFIA, JWST, ALMA, etc.
