US Archival Science with Euclid

IPAC will host an online panel discussion on June 8, 2020 at 11am PDT to discuss future opportunities for US-based archival science with Euclid. To register, please email the ENSCI helpdesk (ensci-support@ipac.caltech.edu).

 

Euclid is an ESA mission, with NASA participation, to study the nature and geometry of the dark universe, with launch planned for mid-2022. Euclid will survey 15,000 square degrees of the extragalactic sky, obtaining near-infrared and wide-band optical imaging, as well as NIR grism spectra. The Euclid Consortium (EC) is building the instruments and data system, and its members will have proprietary access to the data for a limited time. All Euclid data will be made public to the worldwide community within 2 years of acquisition. A small data release is planned for late 2023, and a major release in late 2024. The Euclid NASA Science Center at IPAC (ENSCI) supports Euclid research by the US community (https://www.euclid.caltech.edu).

 

The June 8 panel discussion will introduce the opportunity for Euclid archival research and engage the community on how to prepare for it. The panel will build on short presentations by three speakers, leaving plenty of time for community discussion and questions. We will feature three perspectives. Dr. Harry Teplitz (Caltech/IPAC) will provide a report from ENSCI about programmatic and schedule considerations. Prof. Claudia Scarlata (U. Minnesota) will introduce the Euclid Consortium and what it will provide for the community. Prof. Anna Sajina (Tufts) will discuss community needs for archival research with Euclid.
