Conference Banquet:

the Athenaeum
The conference banquet will be held on Tuesday, October 4, 2011, at Caltech's renowned faculty club, the Athenaeum. Part of a centuries-old tradition of academic societies named for Athena, the Greek goddess of wisdom, the Athenaeum was envisioned by astronomer and Caltech trustee George Ellery Hale as a similar venue for learned discourse. The Athenaeum's first formal dinner in 1931 was attended by Nobel Prize winners Robert A. Millikan, A. A. Michelson and Albert Einstein.

An elegant two-story edifice in the California (Mediterranean-influenced) style, the Ath is replete with intricately styled ceilings, antique furnishings, and lush landscaping. As a popular backdrop for filming, the club has appeared in The Wedding Planner, the X-Files movie, Beverly Hills Cop II, and numerous commercials.

Menu: Citrus Avocado Salad, Smoked Paprika and Garlic Roasted Free Range Chicken *OR* Artichoke Ravioli (vegetarian), Berries Athenaeum

Please specify any special dietary restrictions you have on the registration page. Cocktail hour will begin at 6:00 pm, and dinner will be served at 7:00 pm.

The Athenaeum is building 61 on the Caltech map. Download walking directions from the Hilton to the Ath.
