Abstract • The discovery of two new broad absorption line (BAL) QSOs with emission redshifts of 1.024 and 0.129 is reported. The discovery of the two new low-redshift BAL QSOs strengthens the evidence that the fraction of QSOs with BALs at low redshifts is similar to the 3-10-percent fraction found at higher redshifts. In particular, the analysis suggests that the fraction of luminous QSOs with BALs lies in the range f = 0.07-0.21 and that there is a significant deficit of BALs among objects with B magnitudes greater than -23.5 (e.g., Seyfert 1 type objects). Ultraviolet and optical spectra of the two objects covering 1200-5900 A are presented.
