This photo shows the WIRE detector mount. The square, gray detector can be seen near the center. It is extremely small, with each side measuring less than one cm. Each detector contains 16,384 individual picture elements (pixels). WIRE has two of these detectors. One detects infrared radiation at a wavelength of 12 microns. The second detects IR radiation at 25 microns. |
