Transportation:

  • Los Angeles's award-winning public transportation system
  • Pasadena's local public transportation system
  • Burbank Airport to Pasadena:

Burbank Airport is smaller and closer to Pasadena however it is serviced by fewer flights. Travel time to Pasadena by car, shared ride vans, or taxi is typically half of that from LAX. Shared ride vans offer the same services as described below for LAX, at about the same cost (but generally faster pickup and delivery to Pasadena, and vice versa). Taxi rides will run about $35-45* one way.

    LAX Airport to Pasadena:

Fly-Away Bus Service: If you are arriving at a reasonable hour and don't have heavy bags to carry, the Fly Away bus is a good, inexpensive option. It provides bus service from LAX to Union Station in downtown Los Angeles (make sure you get on the correct Fly Away bus).

To catch the Fly-Away bus from LAX go to the Green sign which says "Fly Away Bus". Catch the bus to Union Station. It runs every half hour between 5:00 am to 1:00 am, and hourly from 1 am to 5am. You pay when you get to Union station. ($7.00)

From Union Station, you can catch the Metro Gold line towards Pasadena (Sierra Madre Villa is currently the end of the line in Pasadena) and get off at the Del Mar station (230 South Raymond). It is a 0.6 mile walk (see map) to Hilton from the Del Mar station to the Hilton, or take the #10 ARTS bus which runs 6am - 8pm weekdays, 11am - 8pm Saturdays, and 11am - 5pm on Sundays). (Fare: $0.50)

Shared Ride Vans: There are basically two companies that operate between LAX (or Burbank Airport; see above) and Pasadena. This ride will take you anywhere between 45 minutes (if you are lucky and get on a full shuttle that is ready to leave the airport) and up to 1.5 to 2 hrs if you are really unlucky (since the vans tend to orbit the gates until they are full). You don't need to make reservations ahead of time but you can. More info at these sites:
