My research activity is focussed on the properties of compact objects and the formation and evolution of binary stars. A large fraction of my work is concerned with the characterization of the optical/infrared emission originating from the various components of compact binary systems, such as the accretion disk and mass donor. Since the interaction of matter with the steep gravitational well of compact objects often produces highly energetic radiation, most of my research projects involving compact objects are also accomplished in connection with X-ray observations.
