NASA Group Achievement Award


The NASA Group Achievement Award is a team award given to a group of Government employees or a group comprised of both Government employees and non-Government personnel for outstanding accomplishment through the coordination of many individual efforts which has contributed substantially to the NASA mission, with explicit consideration given to: 1) the quality of results and the level of impact on NASA programs or operations; 2) effective management of cost and schedule; 3) customer satisfaction; 4) team growth and capacity for future contribution; 5) development of innovative approaches, use of and contributions to lessons learned data banks, and/or success in responding to unforeseen crises.

    Spitzer Graphics and Animation Team - for excellence in the creation and generation of Spitzer graphics and animation, enabling the public to visualize the scientific discoveries of the Spitzer Space Telescope.

    Spitzer Pointing Control System Team - for excellence in development and operation of the Spitzer Space Telescope Pointing Control System, enabling the most accurate observations of the infrared universe to date.

    Spitzer Research Support Agreements Team - for innovation and execution of the Spitzer Research Support Agreements, providing an expeditious, low-cost vehicle for the Spitzer Space Telescope science research funding.

    Spitzer Space Telescope's Target of Opportunity Development Team - in recognition of outstanding team collaboration, innovation, sustained performance, and dedication, significantly contributing to the successful execution of the target of opportunity observations by the Spitzer Space Telescope, and enhancing the scientific quality of the observations.

2005 NASA Group Achievement Awards

    Spitzer Archive Development Team - for excellence in developing, implementing, and populating the Spitzer pubic archive, securing the project data legacy for future generations.

    Spitzer Infrared Array Camera Commissioning Team - for excellence in developing and implementing data collecting and processing software and operating procedures, and in performing data analysis, enabling the scientific validity of the Spiter camera data.

    Spitzer Infrared Spectrograph Commissioning Team - for excellence in developing and implementing data collecting and processing software and operating procedures, and in performing data analysis, enabling the scientific validity of the Spiter spectrograph data.

    Spitzer Multiband Imaging Photometer for Spitzer Commissioning Team - for excellence in developing, and implementing data collecting and processing software and operating procedures, and in performing data analysis, enabling the scientific validity of Spitzer photometer data.

    Spitzer Space Telescope Education and Public Outreach and Public Affairs - for excellence in education, public outreach, and public affairs for the Spitzer project, bringing new views of the universe to students, teachers, astronomers, and the general public.

    Spitzer Space Telescope First Look Survey Science Team - for excellence in planning, implementing, and analyzing the first-look survey, the first science program executed on Spitzer.

    Spitzer Space Telescope General Observer Cycle 1 Time Allocation Process Team - for excellence in planning and executing the first cycle of Spitzer's general observer selection process.

2004 NASA Group Achievement Awards

    Spitzer Space Telescope Mission Operations Team - for the successful development, test and initial operations of the integrated Spitzer Mission and Science Operations Team, as demonstrated by its ability to meet its prelaunch-developed timelines while effectively coping with a variety of observatory issues postlaunch.

    Spitzer Space Telescope Focal Plane Calibration Integrated Product Team - for successful development and commissioning of the Spitzer focal plane calibration mapping system.

2000 NASA Group Achievement Award

    2MASS Team - For the creation of sensitive new catalogs and images of the entire near-infrared sky that will be of great scientific importance for decades to come.

1994 NASA Group Achievement Award

    Skyview Imaging Team - In recognition of the development of a software package for the quantitative analysis of astronomical images that is now in use in over one hundred institutions around the world.

1992 NASA Group Achievement Award

    NASA/IPAC Extragalactic Database Team - In recognition of the design and implementation of the NASA/IPAC Extragalactic Database, which has become a basic research tool in extragalactic astronomy.

    IRAS Sky Survey Atlas Team - in recognition of extraordinary efforts to prepare the fundamental new view of the infrared sky, the IRAS Sky Survey Atlas.

1984 NASA Group Achievement Awards

    IRAS Mission Operations Team - in recognition of outstanding team contributions in carrying out all aspects of operations for the Infrared Astronomical Satellite mission.

    IRAS Project Staff, Integration and Test Team - in recognition of outstanding team performance and international cooperation in the furnishing of project management support and spacecraft integration and test for the Infrared Astronomical Satellite mission.

    IRAS Telescope Development and Test Team - in recognition of outstanding team achievements in the design and development of the Infrared Astronomical Satellite telescope system, which performed excellently in flight and made possible a significant advance in the field of infrared astronomy.

    IRAS Focal Plane Redesign Team - in recognition of an outstanding team effort in redesign, fabrication, and test of the IRAS focal plane array, which was a major subsystem of the IRAS telescope.

    IRAS Mission Scientific Data Analysis System Development and Operations Team - in recognition of outstanding team contributions to the design, development, and operation of the Scientific Data Analysis System for the Infrared Astronomical Satellite mission.

    IRAS Joint Infrared Science Working Group - in recognition of outstanding scientific and engineering contributions to all aspects of the Infrared Astronomical Satellite Project.
