NASA FUNDING OPPORTUNITIES FOR US PARTICIPATION IN HERSCHEL SCIENCE

a) NASA funding of US-based participation in Herschel Open Time Key Programs

US-based investigators who are proposing to ESA for Herschel Open Time Key Programs have the opportunity to obtain funding for successful proposals. The deadline for acceptance of the Key Program Data Analysis (DA/KP) funding proposals is October 26, 2007 at 5.00 pm PDT. Note that this is the day after the ESA deadline for the Herschel proposals themselves. For more details, please visit our website at: http://www.ipac.caltech.edu/Herschel/propinfo.shtml, or visit us at the AAS booth in Hawaii next week.

b) Theoretical Research (TR) and Laboratory Astrophysics (LA) Funding

The deadline for proposals to request funding for Herschel-related theoretical astrophysics and laboratory astrophysics is August 1st, 2007, 5.00 pm PDT. More details about the program and how to apply are given at the website: http://www.ipac.caltech.edu/Herschel/propinfo.shtml

NHSC OPEN TIME KEY PROGRAM OBSERVATION PLANNING WORKSHOP

The NHSC will be offering a hands-on Herschel Observation Planning Workshop oriented toward the Open Time Key Program submission. The workshop will be held in Pasadena at the Infrared Processing and Analysis Center on the Caltech Campus in Pasadena, CA on July 18 and 19th 2007. The registration deadline is June 30th 2007 and registration is now open. For more information and registration information please visit the NHSC website at http://www.ipac.caltech.edu/Herschel/workshops.shtml

IPAC VISITING GRADUATE STUDENT FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM 2007/8

IPAC announces the availability of two visiting graduate student fellowships this year starting in the fall of 2007. The program, which is similar in nature to the successful SSC program, allows a graduate student from institutions outside of Caltech to work with an IPAC scientist for 6-months on a research project relating to IR or sub-mm astronomy. The deadline for applications is July 1st 2007, for a fall start. Instructions about the application process and a list of possible projects can be found at: http://spider.ipac.caltech.edu/staff/apple/IVGRF.html

If you have a question about the Herschel Space Observatory or the NHSC in general, please feel free to register at the NHSC helpdesk, and open a ticket at: http://www.ipac.caltech.edu/Herschel/helpdesk or visiting our website at: http://www.ipac.caltech.edu/Herschel
