Herschel at the 2007 Seattle AAS Meeting
Herschel Key Program Workshop
The date is appoaching for US-based researchers to submit requests for
travel support to the Herschel Key Program Workshop in The
Netherlands. The European Space Agency's Herschel Science Centre (HSC)
is convening this workshop at ESTEC, Noordwijk, The Netherlands, 20
and 21 February 2007. The workshop is co-sponsored by the HSC and the
NHSC, and supported by the Herschel Instrument Consortia.
A brief two-page letter requesting funding is required. The request
should include at a minimum the purpose of attendance and an
abbreviated CV, including institutional affiliation and current
position. Please email a PDF file with your request to the NHSC at
herschel_kpworkshop@ipac.caltech.edu by Dec 15, 2006. This opportunity
of travel support through the NHSC is available only to US-based
researchers.
It is important for anyone wishing to attend this workshop to register
through the workshop website. There is no fee. Please register your
participation early in order to ensure a place; there will be a
practical limit to the number of participants that can be
accommodated. For the latest information, please follow the workshop
link from the HSC webpage at

Herschel at the 2007 Winter AAS Meeting in Seattle
The NHSC is hosting a splinter session at the coming AAS meeting in
Seattle -- AAS Splinter Meeting Session E89. Herschel: The Coming of
Observing Opportunities, Monday, January 08, 2007, 7:00 pm. The agenda
features a summary of Herschel capabilities and status. The Key
Program Announcement of Opportunity will also be discussed.
The Herschel Project Scientist, Gšran Pilbratt, will present and will
be available for questions and discussions, as will several members of
the NHSC and the Herschel community. All are welcome! This will be an
excellent opportunity for all prospective Herschel observers to learn
important current information of all aspects of the Herschel Project
and observing opportunities. Please consult the AAS meeting schedule
for details and any schedule changes.
The NHSC will also be resident at our booth during the AAS meeting in
Seattle. Please stop by to speak with key NHSC members. We will have
on hand current status and information, and provide demonstrations of
HSpot, the Herschel Observation Planning and Proposal Submission
Tool. In addition we expect to have on hand a 1/4 scale model of the
Herschel Space Observatory for you to view.
AAS meetings provide an important opportunity to meet with the NHSC. The
2007 Seattle meeting is the last before release of the Herschel Key
Program Announcement of Opportunity. We hope you will take advantage
of our Splinter Session and booth to help you become as prepared as
possible for submission of proposals.
