The NASA Herschel Science Center is an important resource
that has been established to directly support the US-based
community in proposing and using the Herschel Space Observatory.
The NHSC is here to help you get the very most out of this
special scientific opportunity!
1. Open Time Key Program Mini-Workshop at NHSC
The NHSC will be holding a "mini-workshop" directed toward
US-based members of Open Time Key Program teams. The mini-workshop,
"Extracting Science from the Herschel Space Observatory." will be held
at NHSC in Pasadena, CA on Friday, 22 August 2008. Included on the
agenda will be overviews and status of Herschel and the three instrument
pipelines and data products from NHSC experts. Most importantly, there
will be extended discussion between the teams themselves and with the
NHSC staff so that we all can better coordinate our efforts to obtain
the best results possible from Herschel. To facilitate this important
discussion, we must limit the attendance to 2 members per team only.

2. First NHSC Data Processing Workshop Announcement
The NHSC is happy to announce the First NHSC Herschel Data
Processing Workshop to be held at NHSC in Pasadena, CA on Friday
and Saturday, 9/10 January 2009 (Immediately following the AAS
meeting in nearby Long Beach, CA). This workshop, primarily directed
to US-based members of Open Time Key Program Teams and Guaranteed
Time holders, will provide a comprehensive overview of the Herschel
Data Processing System and its usage by Herschel Observers. There
will be overview presentations and lots of hands-on time with the
system directed by our NHSC experts. Depending on interest, it
is likely that attendance to the workshop will be limited to as
few as 2 or 3 members per team.
Please let the NHSC know of your interest as soon as possible.
Registration and other information will be made available on
the NHSC web pages at a later date. For now, please do not
hesitate to contact the NHSC Helpdesk to make your interest
known to us, and request any additional information. The NHSC
Helpdesk can be found at
