NASA Funding - Frequently Asked Questions

Questions about NASA Funding proposal

Answers

Question: Is funding available for US based co-Is on Guaranteed Time Key Programs with Herschel (or even Guaranteed Time programs that are not Key Programs).

Answer: For Herschel Guaranteed Time, US participation is funded only through the US Principal Investigators for SPIRE (Jamie Bock) and HIFI (Tom Phillips). Any funding for GT programs must be addressed with the appropriate PI.

For Open Time Key Programs, US participation in HOTAC accepted proposals is expected to be funded. The details are in the NHSC Call for Proposals ( http://www.ipac.caltech.edu/Herschel/propinfo.shtml). Basically, one proposal will be submitted per team with a budget request to the NHSC. That budget request will ask for the amount the team needs to do the job. There will be no formula for the KP call. A formulaic approach will be used for the General Open Time calls, which will be similar to that used for Spitzer.
