ANNOUNCEMENT OF CHANGE

It has come to our attention that some possibly important changes have been released in a revision to the PACS Observer's Manual. These changes are specifically related to the PACS spectroscopy modes.

The areas of the manual changed can be found at the URL http://herschel.esac.esa.int/Docs/PACS/html/ch08.html. It affects SED mode and Wavelength-switching modes of the PACS Spectrometer.

We encourage proposers to the current Key Programme AO to acquire the revised document from the ESA HSC web site.

TEXT OF ANNOUNCEMENT FOLLOWS:

On 17 October 2007 an update to the PACS Observers' Manual Section 4.2, PACS spectrometer AOTs (POMv1.5) was posted: http://herschel.esac.esa.int/Docs/PACS/html/ch04s02.html

It imposes a minimum repetition factor of 2 in the following line and range spectroscopy AOTs: SED mode, range scan with Nyquist sampling, and line spectroscopy in "bright line" chopping/nodding.

It also restricts the use of line spectroscopy with wavelength switching to the mapping pointing mode only, with a minimum raster size of 2 by 2.

NOTE: Not using the above modes?? Then STOP reading right here!

Because the AO deadline is close, YOU ARE NOT REQUIRED TO ADAPT YOUR PROPOSAL to incorporate the above update, however, you are allowed to do so.

YOU ARE REQUIRED to tell the HSC Helpdesk WHETHER OR NOT you have adapted your proposal based on the new information.

Case 1: "I HAVE ADAPTED my proposal". You need say no more.

Case 2: "I HAVE NOT ADAPTED MY PROPOSAL". In this case let us know your preference: - would you like to ask for additional observing time - would you prefer to cut down on the number of observations - would you prefer to make other changes to the proposal?

YOU SHOULD PROVIDE THIS INFORMATION TO THE HSC HELPDESK BY 30 OCTOBER 2007 AT UT 12:00 HOURS, by raising a ticket with the title "POMv1.5 statement concerning proposal ".

... and we will work with you in the post-deadline period to adjust your proposal as needed.
