Two Micron All Sky Survey

Figure caption:

The Orion Nebula at K' (2.00 - 2.32 microns), as surveyed by the 2MASS prototype camera. In survey mode, the telescope scans steadily in declination, covering ~13 sq. deg. per hour, while the secondary mirror freezes the focal plane for 1.5s exposures. Each 10'x6 deg. strip consists of 180 frames which overlap by 80% in declination, and adjacent strips overlap by 10% in right ascension. The picture at right is composed of the central parts of the three successive strips shown at left.
